MMS receives grant from Lowe's
Macedonia Middle School is excited to announce that it won a $5,000 grant from Lowe's Toolbox for Education.
This money will be used to construct a beautiful outdoor pavilion for the students to enjoy while conducting science experiments, tutoring one another or just reading for pleasure.
The outdoor learning pavilion will support science, horticulture, reading, ecology, and environmental education curriculum standards. This tremendous addition will add to the enjoyment of learning and provide the students and parents, opportunities they will remember for a lifetime. The school applauds the Goose Creek Lowe's for its support and assistance in obtaining the grant.
Church Activities
The youth at Providence Baptist Church will attend "Winter Jam" at the North Charleston Coliseum on Sunday, Feb. 14.
The Acteens are having a "Spaghetti Supper," on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The cost is $5 for 6 years and older. Children 5 years old and under can eat free. Reservations are being taken. Call the church at 565-3295 and ask for Joyce Sandifer.
Girl Scouts
The Girl Scout troop in Macedonia has been taking pre orders for cookies and will be holding booth sales. I will have more information next week on when and where they will be having the booth sales.
Bedtime at Bonner
On the evening of Jan. 21 Bonner Elementary students came to school in their pajamas for "Bedtime at Bonner."
The students and their parents learned how reading poetry increases reading fluency. Parents were given a packet of information containing poetry websites they can visit with their children, along with helpful tips for reading poetry at home. Each student received a booklet of poetry on his or her grade level.
Parents and students completed an activity together and enjoyed milk and cookies before going home to snuggle in bed and dream about the wonderful evening at Bedtime at Bonner.
This event was a Title 1 parent literacy event. Parents and students are invited to attend the I Love to Read Banquet on Thursday, Feb. 11.
For more information call Susan Denton at 899-8950, ext. 2714 or access Bonner's website at http://www.berkeley.k12.sc.us/.
