The Dixie Youth 11-12 All-Stars and the Dixie Minor 9-10 All Stars hosted all-star teams from Clarendon County last week.
“Our two all-star teams will host a couple scrimmages before playing in tournaments in mid-July,” said Park and Rec athletic director Ralph Jones. “We hosted the teams from Clarendon County tonight … and then we’ll cook hot dogs afterwards for the kids.”
Both the Dixie Youth and Dixie Minor ball clubs easily won their scrimmages though the scoreboards were turned off after the fourth inning. Hot dogs, chips and drinks were served to more than 60 baseball players and their families following the scrimmages.
“These two teams are really good this year,” said Park and Rec director DeWayne Kitts. “There are some really good ball players coming out of this program.”
The All-Star tournament for both Dixie Youth and Dixie Minor teams begin the week after July 4 in Hanahan. Specific game times have yet to be determined.
The Ponytails softball team was eliminated in tournament play last weekend losing to Hanahan by a score of 7-3.
