THS receives ‘A’ for Energy Sustainability Grant
THS teachers A.C. Oliver and Donna Shuler-Rodin received a Sustainability Grant for $5,000 from BP America’s A+ for Energy Program for the 2009-2010 school year.
The grant is titled Reaching for the Sun Plus and continues a grant they were awarded last year.
According to the teachers, in their grant, students at Timberland High School will learn about solar energy by continuing to build a solar-powered vehicle from the ground up.
They will gather data and then enhance the operation of the basic solar powered vehicle, using extra solar panels and alternative charging systems (wind/ gear driven) to increase driving distance and efficiency. Further, the students will experiment with additional alternators and generators to extend the drive time of the vehicle.
Timberland Volleyball
Volleyball practices/workouts will be held at Timberland starting on July 6.
Practices will be on Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Varsity tryouts will be held on Aug. 4. Contact Coach Elizondo for further information.
