Ann Bigelow of Cross won first place for best senior quilt in the 2009 Orangeburg Fair. Ann has been quilting since 1995, but this was the first time she had entered a quilt in any competition. Ann belongs to the Lake Marion Piecemaker Quilt Guild that meets in Elloree every month. Congratulations, Ann!
The Cross High School JROTC will have a special Veteran’s Day Program Wednesday (Nov. 11) at 3:30 p.m. in front of the school.

If you’re fortunate enough get your paper early enough, plan to immediately stop by the high school to support the youth of this community.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10 the JROTC program was formally inspected by their higher headquarters. Many community residents have supported the program so a special invitation was extended to attend the two-hour inspection

Sunday Singing

Everyone is invited to the Fifth Sunday Singing on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. at Spring Hill UM Church on Highway 27.

New Hope UMC, Spring Hill UMC, and Friendship UMC will join together for this event. A fellowship meal will follow the singing.

Join the group for worship and fellowship with other Christians if you are not already involved with a church on Sunday evening on Nov. 29.

Sharing Thanksgiving

The Cross Housing Fellowship (FUMC, Spring Hill UMVC, Greater St. Paul UMCV, Silas UMCV and others) will have a Thanksgiving Dinner at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22 at Greater St. Paul UMC for those in our communities who are not able to share family Thanksgiving meals.

Thank You

The family of George Wigfall wishes to thank all the churches and people who came, brought food, monetary gifts, cards, prayers, and for everything done for the Wigfall family. It certainly made us feel special and that we have touched the lives of so many people. Thank you again. From Mom and the Children.

Mountain Vacation

Helen and Carroll Cash recently enjoyed a fall vacation at Alpine Village near Burnsville, N.C.

Connie and O’Dell Shuler also enjoyed the fall colors of the mountains when they visited Roberta and J.C. Hinson in Waynesville, N.C. Francis Huntley is much better and was able to enjoy a trip to Greenville to visit with some of her family.

William and Joyce Hutto joined Celeste and Ellison Singletary for a long weekend in the mountains. The weather was lovely, and the colors of nature were magnificent although the leaves were falling quickly.

A change of locations is always nice, and it usually makes one appreciate home more.

The Fair

Many around the Lowcountry enjoyed the Coastal Carolina Fair last week. It was a great time for visiting with folks from Holly Hill, St. Stephen, Cross, Moncks Corner, and surrounding areas while watching the youngsters ride the many rides.

The Cat Spectacular Show was topnotch entertainment for all ages as was the Hypnotist Show. If you weren’t able to attend this year, plan to attend next time.
