Berkeley County Water and Sanitation's Geographic Information System (GIS) can now be accessed at www.bcwsa.com.
The system gives users access to valuable information 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“Allowing general access to our geographic information system (GIS) is a cost effective enhancement for the public and for BCWS,” BCWS Executive Director Colin Martin said. “We have worked hard over the last several years to bring this web-based capability to the public.
“Developers, contractors, and residents can now visit our website and find out where our water and sewer services are available. This is a tremendous planning tool for many industries and private landowners as well.”
The GIS portion of the website features its own Frequently Asked Questions and Help section to guide the user through the system.
Making the GIS system accessible online was only part of a complete website overhaul for BCWS. The site was redesigned to enhance its usability for customers.
In addition to the GIS, some of the new features on the site include an Events Calendar and Education and Outreach page.
The Recycling section of the website breaks down the various convenience centers and drop sites by location and includes a list of the items accepted at each. This makes it easier for customers to find out what items they can recycle and where.
“The new features on the site are intended to be an added convenience to customers but they can never replace a phone call or a visit,” BCWS Community Relations Manager Johanna Cooper said. “We are still accessible to our customers but we wanted to give them more options.”
