Youth from these three counties will forgo sleeping in on a Saturday morning in order to make a difference in the community. The 2008 Tricounty Youth Service Day will begin with rallies at North Charleston High School for Charleston and Berkeley counties and at Harleyville-Ridgeville Elementary School for Dorchester County. Participants will receive a breakfast snack, a light lunch and a T-shirt.
Following the rally, participants will be deployed to service projects that impact their county. Past projects have included senior citizen involvement, painting walls at various facilities, work with Habitat for Humanity, and landscaping at the YMCA.
Volunteers will return to their rally locations for lunch and ceremonies.
Tricounty Youth Service Day is conducted in partnership with Global Youth Service Day.
Now in its ninth year locally, Tricounty Youth Service Day has connected hundreds of volunteers to local agencies and schools. In 2008, the event is organized through a coalition of support.
