A sampling of nefarious doings obtained from Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and Moncks Corner Police Department reports:
• Note to drug dealers: you might want to obey traffic signals while carrying your cargo.
A Moncks Corner police officer saw a gold Nissan Maxima fail to stop at a stop sign at Shannonwood Drive and Old U.S. 52. The officer stopped the vehicle and upon making contact with the driver, immediately noted a strong odor of marijuana. The officer then searched the driver finding several baggies of a leafy green substance and a couple of white rocks in his pockets.
Instead of completing his trip, the driver wound up in Hill Finklea Detention Center on charges of possession with intent to distribute crack, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and possession with intent to distribute crack within half a mile of a park.
• A man who owns a business in Ladson reported that someone jumped a chain link fence and stole the catalytic converters and oxygen sensors stolen off 11 of his vehicles. The total value of stolen items is estimated at $15,200.
• A case from the, “Fool me twice shame on me” school of crime: A St. Stephen man reported that he loaned a Goose Creek man $5,000 back in 2008. The man who made the loan said he made the subject sign a contract stating he would pay $6,500 by April 1, 2008, interest and principal.
The subject told the man he did not have the money, so the victim renewed the loan for another six months for a total of $9,750 by Oct. 2008. He apparently has not seen or heard from the subject since.
• A Summerville woman reported that her roommate took her car keys and her debit card out of her purse while she was taking a bath. She said she called him several times and he kept promising to bring her car back, but has not done so. However, he has used her debit card to withdraw more than $1,000. He has also deposited nearly $3,000 in bad checks to her account. The case is under investigation.
