Students, volunteers lead cleanup effort

Timberland High School DECA students and other volunteers took part in Palmetto Trail Maintenance Day in the Francis Marion Forest on Nov. 22. Students donned hard hats and work gloves to demolish a rotten footbridge in desperate need of replacement.

Using crowbars, muscles, sweat, and teamwork, the students tackled the grueling task with the assistance and supervision of rangers. The weather provided a wonderful backdrop to not only enjoy the beautiful forest, but to contribute to the sustainability and preservation of this precious natural resource.

Students who took part in the project were John Smalls, Ashley Wilson, Stephanie Taylor, Mitch Crawford, Cedric Canty, Amanda Schumann, Ashley Wilks-Wiggins, Logan Metts, Allegra Green, Joe Swinton, Keenan Williams, Brent Craven, J. T. Dennis, Mason Benton and Saivon Morant. The chaperone for the project was Diane Benton.

Jillian Coffin coordinated the project and is the Timberland sponsor of DECA, an association of marketing students.

Thanks to everyone involved for completing a wonderful and needed project.
