Anyway, I wrote about Charlotte’s love of romaine lettuce and her new interest in bananas.
Here’s a little of what I heard from our readers:
“LOVED your column about wiener dogs in this week's Goose Creek Gazette. Our family had dachshunds most of my childhood and to this day they remain near and dear to my heart. My parents had a miniature wire-haired named Otto (who, since their deaths, resides with my sister). When Dad was alive, every morning he had a banana with his breakfast. And every morning Otto got a piece of it as well. I’m attaching a picture of Otto - in his car seat that I gave him for Christmas last year. (See Otto on Spotted)

I enjoyed your column about your dacshunds, Sally and Charlotte. We belong to a red short-haired dachsund named Lady who treats us well and keeps us entertained. She is the most lovable and spoiled owner a human could ever have. She will also eat anything that is dropped accidentally or purposely on the floor in an instant without stopping to take a sniff. Her favorite treats are cheese and raw French-fries. But we have to be very careful with pickles. The one time that she snatched up a pickle slice that my daughter dropped was disastrous. We had left shortly after the pickle snatching to go to a birthday party at my neighbor's house. When we returned, my daughter went to sit down on a chair in the living room and started screaming. The pickle had upset poor Lady's stomach and she made a mess all over the chair. My daughter had put her hand right in the middle of it! My husband was still next door and heard her screams and came running imagining something horrible had happened. We also found more mess in the living room on the carpet. We spend the remainder of the evening using the Hoover Carpet Cleaner to get it clean. I look forward to reading more about your pets.

Another enjoyable column – I have a yorkie who will outdo Charlotte on the veggies and fruits, but he likes his meat also. Barkley will eat absolutely anything we eat, with only one exception – he does not like bananas. A little piece of banana will be eagerly grabbed, then rolled around in the mouth, and spat out on the floor. On the other hand, he will kill for strawberries and fresh pineapple, and will gulp down lettuce and veggies. Since he tends to be on the “husky” side for a small dog, the vet has suggested that we use green beans and the like as treats for him.

And a treat for readers and dog lovers (especially of the wiener and German Shepherd variety), you’ll love this little song at: http://members.aol.com/himmelmail/Dixie.mp3
