St. John’s Christian’s Mason Ritter was the winning pitcher in a 13-1 win over Andrew Jackson Academy.

St. John’s Christian’s baseball team won for the seventh time in nine games Wednesday, April 10, cruising past Andrew Jackson in a region game.

The Cavaliers improved to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in SCISA Region 1-AA with the 13-1 victory. St. John’s Christian also blanked AJA, 8-0, two days earlier.

Leonard Huxford and Sumter Moorer were 2-for-3 with three runs scored for the Cavaliers, who were slated to tangle with Cross April 11 (after press time). Will Rusch and Landon Chipman each scored twice for St. John’s Christian.

Cavaliers pitcher Mason Ritter struck out five batters over three innings, allowing three hits, to earn the win on the mound. He supported himself with two RBIs at the plate. Reliever Reese Allen recorded the final six outs in the five-inning game, striking out five batters and allowing a hit.

In the 8-0 victory, Cavaliers pitcher Tyler Black struck out 13 batters over five hitless innings to earn the win. Huxford sealed the shutout with two innings of relief, striking out five batters and allowing one hit.

St. John’s Christian hosts Dorchester Academy Tuesday, April 16, and makes a return trip to Dorchester Friday, April 19, for a series that could determine the region champion.

The Cavaliers travel to First Baptist for a non-region game Monday, April 22, before finishing the regular season at home a day later against Northwood Academy.
