Guided Bird Walk: 10-11 a.m., Jan. 28. Old Santee Canal Park, Interpretive Center, 900 Stony Landing, Moncks Corner. Free event with paid park admission. For all ages, under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Join the Park Director Brad Sale for a leisurely walk around the swamp as you search for our resident and migratory feathered friends! We will cover approximately one mile over well-graded gravel paths and boardwalk, with some minimal inclines and uneven surfaces. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Some binoculars will be provided but bring your own if able. Registration is required by Jan. 27. Paint It: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Jan. 29 and the third Thursday of each month. Cane Bay Library, Activity Room, 1655 Cane Bay Blvd Suite A, Summerville. Join us as we get creative and turn everyday objects into artistic treasures. Paint and monthly projects provided by the Friends of the Library. Registration is required. Guided Nature Walk: 10-11 a.m., Feb. 11. Old Santee Canal Park, Interpretive Center, 900 Stony Landing, Moncks Corner. Free event with paid park admission. For all ages, under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Even though winter is upon us, many creatures of the swamp love this time of year. Our educator on staff will inform you all about the plants and animals you come across on your nature walk. You will explore the remnants of the first canal ever built in America and learn some park history. Class size is limited to 15 people. Registration is required by Feb. 9. Spanish Storytime: 10-10:30 a.m., Feb. 11. Berkeley County Library System (BCLS) and Hanahan Library invite children ages *birth-5 years to visit and listen to their favorite stories, in Spanish, told by volunteers with dancing, singing, and tons of fun! History of Sweetgrass Basket Weaving: 10-11 a.m. Feb. 18. Old Santee Canal Park, Interpretive Center, 900 Stony Landing, Moncks Corner. Free event with paid park admission. For all ages, under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. In celebration of Black History Month come out and join sweetgrass basket weaver Nancy White, as she teaches about the history of sweetgrass basket weaving. This class will include a demonstration on how a traditional sweetgrass basket is made. Class size is limited to 30 people. Registration is required by Feb. 15. Carolina Gold: 10-11 a.m. Feb. 25. Old Santee Canal Park, Interpretive Center, 900 Stony Landing, Moncks Corner. Free event with paid park admission. For ages 6-12, must be accompanied by an adult. This class will discuss how rice production and culture in South Carolina turned it into one of the wealthiest colonies in the western world. Participants will even try their hands at processing rice and learn what led to the downfall of the rice culture and see the effects it had on the land today. Registration is required by Feb. 24. BBQ & Brews: 3-7 p.m., Mar. 4. Carnes Crossroads Green Barn, 513 Wodin Place, Summerville. The City of Goose Creek will celebrate St. Patty’s Day with our annual BBQ & Brews festival. Admission and parking are free. Rain date is March 18. Come enjoy an afternoon and evening of live music, a variety of barbecue food vendors, and beer trailers. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Cookin’ the Creek: 11 a.m.-2 p.m., April 22.Goose Creek City Hall, 519 N Goose Creek Blvd, Goose Creek. Admission and parking are free. Food trucks from around the Lowcountry will be showcasing the best items on their menus. Free children's games, GCPD K-9 shows, music and touch-a-truck vehicles will all be onsite. Each vendor will compete in our first ever wing contest. Attendees will be given two tickets at the ticket booth near the stage to vote for their favorite wings. The vendor with the most tickets will win the People’s Choice Award. Other contest categories consist of “Most Originjal”, Mayor’s Choice and the overall Cookin’ in the Creek Champion. Picking at the Post: 6 p.m., first Thursday of every month. American Legion Post 166, located at 116 Howe Hall Road, Goose Creek. Calling all musicians! Join us for an old fashioned Back Porch jam session. Beginners are welcome. Acoustic instruments only; no amplifiers.

Needlecraft Group at BCLS: 1-4 p.m., every Thursday. Cane Bay Library, 1655 Cane Bay Blvd., Summerville. All types of needlecraft are encouraged. Experienced participants, may bring a working project of knitting, stitching, crochet, embroidery or cross-stitch, and are available to assist beginner participants. Moncks Corner Board of Zoning Appeals: 6-7 p.m., meets the first Tuesday of each month. Moncks Corner Town Hall, 118 Carolina Ave. The board votes on special exceptions and variances, and only meets when applications have been submitted. The public is welcome to attend.

Moncks Corner Town Council Meeting: 6-7 p.m., third Tuesday of each month. In the courtroom at Town Hall, 118 Carolina Ave. Any changes in the meeting schedules are advertised in advance. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Berkeley County Board of Education: 5:30 p.m., meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month in the boardroom located at 107 E. Main St. in Moncks Corner (except as noted on Oct. 27 and March 9). Board meetings are open to the public and citizens are encouraged to attend. There is an opportunity for “Citizen Comments” at the start of each meeting. Meetings are streamed live on the BCSD YouTube channel.

Goose Creek Architectural Review Board: 6:30-7:30 p.m., meets third Monday of every month. The city of Goose Creek Architectural Review Board requirements are that all changes to commercial properties be reviewed and approved by the board. The application deadline is 5 p.m., 14 days prior to a board meeting. For major applications, the project will need to be reviewed by staff, comments/corrections issued to the applicant/architect/engineer and comments addressed/corrections made by the applicant/architect/engineer prior to submission of the application on the deadline.
