Women's self-defense class: The Goose Creek Police Department's Women's Self-Defense Class is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21. Email CPS William Schreurs at wschreurs@cityofgoosecreek.com to register and for more information. 

Free Judo and Jujitsu Classes for Military Veterans: Classes are 4-5:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Athletic Fitness center opposite Sam’s Gym at the Naval Weapons Station. All classes are free and open to veterans from all branches of service for Judo and traditional Jujitsu classes. Beginner and advanced classes are taught by United States Judo Association black belt instructors, including second-degree instructors Ricky Herndon and Glen Chears. Participants will be required to join the United States Judo Association ($60/year, $35 for active-duty personnel) and purchase a uniform (available on site) if they do not already have one. Picking at the Post: This event is at 6 p.m. the first Thursday of every month at American Legion Post 166, 116 Howe Hall Road, Goose Creek. All musicians are encouraged to attend for an old-fashioned back-porch jam session. Beginners are welcome. Acoustic instruments only; no amplifiers.

Take Home Craft: Sessions are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays at Cane Bay Library, 1655 Cane Bay Boulevard, Suite A, Summerville. Trident Head Injury Support Group: The meeting is 6:30-8:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month at 701 E. Bay St., Suite 121, in Charleston. Monthly support group meetings are for survivors, caregivers and friends who have acquired the life-changing effects of traumatic brain injury. BCLS Tutor.com for Libraries: The fourth Friday of each month there will be a free online tutor.com orientation session. Review how one can access one's program and share the features available and questions will be answered live. This session is geared toward library customers of all ages, educators and library team staff. Services for K-12th grade, intro-level college, adult learners and job seekers. Resources include a K-12 student center with live homework help, write tutor center, test prep center and a skills center resource library. BCLS Genealogy: Berkeley County Library System invites customers to book a one-on-one session with a genealogist to learn about family history and genealogy from 11 a.m.-noon each Thursday at the Goose Creek Library, 325 Old Moncks Corner Road, Goose Creek. Registration is required and may be completed at berkeleylibrarysc.libcal.com/event/10282038. During registration, customers are encouraged to complete the Six Generation Chart (as much as possible) and bring it to the session. Farmers Market: The Moncks Corner Farmers Market opens from 3-7 p.m. every Thursday at The Market Pavilion inside The Moncks Corner Regional Recreation Complex, 418 East Main St. The market season runs until Nov. 16. Several farmers at the market accept senior citizen vouchers.

Moncks Corner Board of Zoning Appeals: The board meets from 6-7 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at Moncks Corner Town Hall, 118 Carolina Ave. The board votes on special exceptions and variances, and meets only when applications have been submitted. The public is welcome to attend.

Moncks Corner Town Council: The meeting is 6-7 p.m. third Tuesday of each month in the courtroom at town hall, 118 Carolina Ave. Any changes in the meeting schedules are advertised in advance. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Berkeley County Board of Education: The board meets at 5:30 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month in the boardroom at 107 E. Main St. in Moncks Corner (except as noted on Oct. 27 and March 9). Board meetings are open to the public and citizens are encouraged to attend. There is an opportunity for citizen comments at the start of each meeting. Meetings are also streamed live on the BCSD YouTube channel.

Goose Creek Architectural Review Board: The meetings are 6:30-7:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month. The city of Goose Creek requires all changes to commercial properties be reviewed and approved by the board. The application deadline is 5 p.m. 14 days prior to a board meeting. For major applications, the project will need to be reviewed by staff, comments/corrections issued to the applicant/architect/engineer and comments addressed/corrections made by the applicant/architect/engineer prior to submission of the application on the deadline. Goose Creek Blvd. All city council meetings are open to the public and include the opportunity for attendees to address council with questions and concerns. All regular city council meetings are also streamed live on the city website.
