Berkeley County is working on this initiative with several stakeholders, including Trust Public Land, Lord Berkeley Conservation, Lowcountry Land Trust, Studio Main, and Tom O’Rourke Parks and Recreation.

In November 2022, Berkeley County residents voted, through a referendum, to continue the county’s One-Cent Sales Tax Program for another seven years. For the first time since the program’s inception in 2008, funding will also be used for Greenbelt Preservation projects. Most of the One-Cent Sales Tax Program funds help fund roadway, transportation and infrastructure-related projects.

At its meeting Feb. 26, the Berkeley County Council voted to create the Berkeley County Conservation and Greenbelt Advisory Commission to provide recommendations on these projects.
