Women's Self Defense Class: June 1, 6-8 p.m. Goose Creek Recreation Activity Center, Women's self-defense classes are intended to provide basic awareness and defense skills applicable to a variety of common situations wherein women may become victims. 5K race/walk: Goose Creek Police Department will host its 5th Annual 5k fun run/walk themed “Hot Pursuit” on June 10. The 5K begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Goose Creek Municipal Center. A free half-mile kids run on the path around the lake starts at 7:30 a.m. Proceeds go toward holiday events, including “Shop with a Badge” – a program that allows police officers to go Christmas shopping with children in need. Race packets can be picked up from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 9 in the Goose Creek Police Department lobby, 519 N. Lowcountry Juneteenth Week: The highlight of a star-studded week celebrating African American history will be June 16 with special concerts at the Hanahan Amphitheater. Goodie Mob, featuring CeeLo Green, will perform live at 6 p.m. at the Hanahan Amphitheater at 3100 Mabelline Road, Hanahan.

Juneteenth Family Fest: On Saturday, June 17, 2023, we will kick off our 3rd Annual Juneteenth Family Fest! This community-family-based event will take place at the Riverfront Park in North Charleston, SC, and is open and free to the public. You can arrive as early as 2 pm, and festivities will begin at 3 pm. This day-long celebration will be power-packed with activities ranging from live performances, black art displays, games for children, and delicious cultural food! There will also be non-profit organizations, local community service vendors, as well as Historical Black Colleges and Universities on site. This joyous occasion will be topped off with a grand fireworks show finale that will be worth watching with your family and friends! We’re asking the community to come out and celebrate where we’ve come from, as we look forward to where we are heading and what we desire to accomplish.

Moncks Corner's Fourth of July Celebration: The Town of Moncks Corner is hosting the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration on Saturday July 1, 6-10 p.m. at the Regional Recreation Complex, 418 E. Main St. Free admission and parking, there will be food trucks, face painting, balloon artists, a vendor market and more. Fireworks begin at dusk/9:30 p.m. Do NOT bring alcohol, fireworks grills.

July 4 fireworks: Goose Creek’s annual Fourth of July Celebration and fireworks display will take place from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, at the Goose Creek Municipal Center. The event will feature live music, food vendors and free kids' activities. Outside fireworks, sparklers and alcohol are prohibited. Admission and parking are free. Parking is limited. Rain date is July 11.

Police academy: The Goose Creek Police Department recently graduated a new class of its Citizens Police Academy. The 8-week program offers a way for residents to learn more about all aspects of the police department. A new academy class will begin Wednesday, Aug. 16. Free Judo and Jujitsu Classes for Military Veterans: 4-5:30 P.M. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Athletic Fitness center opposite Sam’s Gym at the Naval Weapons Station. All classes are free and open to veterans from all branches of service for Judo and traditional Jujitsu classes. Beginner and advanced classes are taught by United States Judo Association black belt instructors, including 2nd degree instructors Ricky Herndon and Glen Chears. Participants will be required to join the United States Judo Association ($60/year, $35 for active-duty personnel) and purchase a uniform (available on site) if they don’t already have one. Moncks Corner Board of Zoning Appeals: 6-7 p.m., meets the first Tuesday of each month. Moncks Corner Town Hall, 118 Carolina Ave. The board votes on special exceptions and variances, and only meets when applications have been submitted. The public is welcome to attend.

Berkeley County Board of Education: 5:30 p.m., meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month in the boardroom located at 107 E. Main St. in Moncks Corner (except as noted on Oct. 27 and March 9). Board meetings are open to the public and citizens are encouraged to attend.
