Victim identified after truck strikes pedestrian; charges filed

One person is dead after an overnight auto-pedestrian hit and run accident in Moncks Corner.

According to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury, 55-year-old Sedaris Mabry of Moncks Corner was killed after being hit by a truck on North Live Oak Drive in Moncks Corner, near Berkeley Middle School.

According to Salisbury, the truck left the scene of the accident and was found near 17-A and State Road by a Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputy.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of the pickup, Michael Ronnie Stephens, 41, of Summerville, is charged with DUI, open container and leaving the scene of an accident involving death. He has been arrested and is at Hill-Finklea Detention Center.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the SCHP are investigating the accident.
