The Timberland volleyball team is going for four.
That’s four as in Region 7AA championships, and consecutively as in four in a row.
Timberland successfully began defense of their 2013 Region 7AA title with a 3-0 sweep of Carver’s Bay, at home, on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
Coach Joy Elizondo has instilled a frame of mind in her players over the past few years that puts the team ahead of the individual. It is a mindset her team has bought into all the way down to the middle school level.
Elizondo couldn’t ask for anything more out of her players in the season’s first match.
“I think we are looking strong early,” she said. “We need to focus on cutting down on unforced errors before beginning region play.”
When the Region 7AA schedule serves up in October, the Wolves will begin defense of their third straight region title and seek title number four. With realignment shifting teams around there is fresh blood facing the Lady Wolves.
“We will face new competition,” the coach said. “Johnsonville and Andrews look strong this year as well.”
The Lady Wolves field a team of experience and youth, players that have played THS volleyball since middle school.
“I have five seniors and a strong line up. It’s just getting everyone focused on our goal and putting in the work it takes to win. I’m excited to see what this year will bring.”
The Lady Wolves seniors are Taylor Ravenell, Katie Shackleford, Devon Burbage, Tamarra Robinson and Shakashia Broughton.
The remaining Lady Wolves include Skylar Dolloff, Micheala McCants, Brittany Cool, Hannah Fort and Lauren Goodbee.
