More technician jobs could be coming to Berkeley County.
A manufacturer, known only by the moniker “Project Douglas,” is in economic development talks with the county. On Monday, Berkeley County Council read into record the first of three readings to offer Project Douglas a fee-in-lieu-of-tax agreement.
Details on the company are limited as the county and Project Douglas hash out the details in the coming weeks.
During Monday’s Finance Committee meeting, Berkeley County Economic Development Director Gene Butler gave a brief glimpse of the company.
“This is a new company that is looking at Berkeley County with a verbal commitment to come here. It’s a manufacturing facility that will make a sizeable investment. It will create some (technician) jobs in the Bushy Park area,” Butler said.
It’s common practice for companies to use pseudonyms during economic development agreement talks to protect their identity.
One of the more famous monikered companies to locate to Berkeley County was Maguro Enterprises. Later, it was discovered that it was a front for Google Inc.
