What a difference a week makes.

Ryan Hood tossed a pair of touchdown passes to lead Timberland over Stratford 13-9 in the featured Thursday, Aug. 21 two-quarter scrimmage at the 44th Annual Sertoma Classic at Johnson-Hagood Stadium in Charleston.

Timberland had fallen behind 9-0 behind a blocked punt and rallied to score the pair of late TDs to pull out the win.

“We were not very good in the opening minutes, but settled in and played with a lot of enthusiasm,” said Coach Art Craig. “We scored twice in the last five minutes to win.”

Hood connected first with Shamel Williams on a 22-yard strike, then hooked up with Daniel Robinson with the game-winning score with less than a minute remaining.

The Wolves’ final dress rehearsal comes on the heels of a 28-0 shutout of Lake City earlier in the week.

The Wolves bounced back from an awful showing against West Ashley on Aug. 15 where THS surrendered three second quarter touchdowns in an eight-minute span.

With the strong showing against Lake City and the win over Stratford, Timberland stands ready to kick off the season on Aug. 29, at home, against Hanahan.

For Art Craig, the best medicine for his team is to get healthy.

“We have four or five guys banged up that we need to get well,” he said.

One of them is Craig’s son Wyatt, who suffered a broken nose this week in practice and was forced to miss Sertoma.

The younger Craig had the nose reset and should be ready for the Hanahan game.

“It was one of those things where I went one way and the guy I was up against went another and he head butted me,” the senior tight end said.

Art Craig said for his team to have a chance to win against Hanahan they will have to cut down on mistakes and play their brand of football.

“Hanahan has a very dynamic football team and they will come at you with everything they have,” he said. “We just have to take care of our own business and not get rattled.”

Kickoff on Friday, Aug. 29 against the Hawks is at 7:30 p.m.
