Man arrested in hit-and-run case

The South Carolina Highway Patrol made an arrest Thursday, Aug. 21, in a hit-and-run fatality Tuesday, according to SCHP and Berkeley County Sheriff’s officials.

Terry Walter Erdman II, 32, of Cross, was taken into custody just after 5 p.m. by state troopers and taken to the Berkeley County jail.

Peggy Ann Cain, 59, was found on Trojan Road in Cross at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Erdman is charged with leaving the scene of a collision involving death. Officials said a bond hearing was set for later Thursday.

A traffic stop was made on Shortcut Road off S.C. 45 on Thursday afternoon when a highway patrolman spotted a white Chevrolet minivan with missing parts that matched evidence found at the scene.

Erdman’s girlfriend was driving the van at the time of the stop. She advised officers where he was located, and he was then was taken into custody from his workplace.

He also had warrants for his arrest for other violations from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Autopsy results on Cain are pending.
