More than 30 years ago, a group of concerned citizens and community leaders in Cross dreamed of bringing to its residents a facility to address their healthcare needs.
Through hard work, perseverance, and community support, the Cross Health Care Center was born. However, the increasing healthcare needs of the citizens of the area, did not allow the staff and its dedicated Board of Directors to consider their job finished, or completed.
On Aug. 9 another dream for the citizens of Cross was realized as the ribbon cutting of the 6,000-foot, Elijah Wright Health Center (Fetter Health Care Network), was realized. The new facility, a dream of its name sake, and other board members, will continue the legacy of providing comprehensive, quality, affordable health care services, on a broader and more comprehensive basis, to the residents of the Cross Community and surrounding areas.
The site is named in honor of Mr. Elijah Wright, a lifelong resident and leader of the Cross Community whose commitment to it was unwavering.
Mr. Wright served as a member of the Fetter Board of Directors for over 20 years until his death in 2012. Wright and Mrs. Dorothy Wright were also very instrumental in recruiting the initial physician and nurse to the first health center established for the citizens of the Cross community.
The new center contains nine patient rooms, a 50-person waiting or reception area, a pharmacy, physician’s offices, conference areas, dining area for staff, and other necessary and basic needs components.
An opportunity to tour the facility was provided immediately following the benediction following last week’s dedication ceremony. The facility is absolutely beautiful and fully equipped to provide the services needed for exceptional healthcare.
The facility is located at 1681 Old Highway 6 in Cross.
