As the dog days of summer continue, the big dog fish continue to bite on Lakes Marion and Moultrie and the Cooper River, according to Capt. Joe Dennis of Santee Cooper Charters.
“Crappie and bream are biting on the brush piles in 25-to-30 feet of water on the lake on minnows and crickets,” Dennis said.
As for river fishing, Dennis said, “Bass are biting good on the Santee and Cooper Rivers early morning and late evening, top-water bite with tiny torpedoes and pop R’s.”
The big lunkers, the flathead and Arkanas catfish, are grouped up under the shad schools in 25-to-45 feet of water on the lake.
Dennis, along with Capt. Truman Lyon at Santee Cooper Charters, provide expert guide fishing services on Lakes Marion and Moultrie and the Cooper River.
