Alcoa Mount Holly will no longer be a Santee Cooper customer unless the entities can come to a longterm agreement.
And so far, they’ve been unable to come to an agreement for the last three years.
This week, Alcoa officials announced it will not renew its power contract for the facility located near Goose Creek.
However, negotiations are continuing that could secure a deal to keep Alcoa’s doors open in Berkeley County.
At stake are 600 jobs and a $900 million annual economic value that the plant brings to the state and region.
Santee Cooper officials said they are optimistic as both sides remain at the negotiating table.
