Hood’s Chapel United Methodist Church has welcomed its new pastor, Janice Mabey. She replaced Pastor Bill Tanner who retired in June.
Pastor Janice was appointed on June 25 by the Rev. Patricia J. Parrish, Charleston District Superintendent of the UM Church. She serves both Hood’s Chapel UM and Ebernezer UM Churches. Pastor Janice and her husband Dan residue in Summerville.
She graduated from California State University with dual majors in English/accounting, and is continuing her theological studies by attending summer courses at Emory University. She previously served as pastor at Lebanon UMC and Spring Hill UMC, both in Ridgeville, Black Creek UMC in Cross, and for a short time at Boone Hill UMC in Summerville.
Her husband, Dan serves as a Lay Minister at Eccles UMC and Berra UMC.
Before his last services the congregation at Hood’s Chapel had an appreciation dinner for Pastor Bill and his wife Shirley, also Ebenezer UM Church had a dinner for them.
Pastor Tanner is missed as he served five years at Hood’s Chapel and served at Ebenezer before coming to Hood’s Chapel.
