Accident claims St. Stephen man

A St. Stephen man died Thursday in a one-vehicle accident on Hoodtown Road.

Kevin Lee Malay, 48, of St. Stephen, died after his pickup truck ran off the roadway and struck several trees, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury. The accident occurred at 5:11 p.m., Salisbury said.

Mr. Malay was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck, Salisbury reported.

Mr. Malay was pronounced dead on the scene by Coroner Salisbury. His death has been ruled accidental and no other vehicles were involved.

The accident was investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the SC Highway Patrol.
