United States Army Colonel Derrin E Williams, a Moncks Corner native and Berkeley High School graduate, took command of the Defense Logistics Agency-Central (DLA) during a recent ceremony at MacDill Airforce Base, FL.

The ceremony was officiated by Rear Admiral Vincent L. Griffith, U.S. Navy, DLA Director of Logistics Operations. Colonel Mark A. McCormick, U.S. Army, passed the mantle of command to Col. Williams. Among the distinguished attendees were Major General Aundre Piggee, U.S. Army, USCENTCOM Director for Logistics, Engineering and Contracting, as well as his Deputy, Scott Anderson.

Col. Williams comes to DLA as an experienced Army logistician with a strong background in CENTCOM gained through numerous tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also brings a strategic perspective from his studies at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

Col. Williams is prepared to lead DLA Central into the next phase of logistics support to the CENTCOM AOR as the U.S. turns over security responsibilities to Afghan forces and prepares for the next contingency in this volatile region.

Col. Williams is the son of Christina Williams and the late Nathaniel Williams Sr. of Moncks Corner and is a 1985 graduate of Berkeley High School.

Williams earned a Bachelor of Science degree from South Carolina State University in 1989, Master of Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2001 and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 2012.

Col. Williams is married to the former Denise Collins of Columbia, S.C. They have two children Kristin, age 17, and Derrin, age 14.
