A Mount Pleasant man was arrested early Thursday in Charleston after a traffic stop and subsequent search of his vehicle turned up a large amount of cocaine and cash, according to Charleston police officials.
Justin Arthur Rivers, 22, was stopped on Meeting Street near the intersection with Jackson Street after a Charleston police officer spotted a car drifting in and out of its lane of travel.
It was orginally reported that Rivers was from Moncks Corner, but Charleston police officials released a corrected statement late Thursday saying Rivers was from Mount Pleasant.
The officer noticed a smell of marijuana coming from the car after it was pulled over. A search of the suspect and his vehicle found 111.5 grams of cocaine, 10.2 grams of cocaine base, 80.6 grams of marijuana, more than $3,400 in cash, two handguns and an assault rifle, according to the police report.
Rivers is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, trafficking cocaine, trafficking cocaine base, unlawful carrying of a handgun and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
