The Moncks Corner Park and Recreation Dixie Minors All-Stars held their own well in the recent district tournament in Summerville, missing out by a game to advance to the state tournament.
The runner-up Dixie Minors All Stars were honored before Moncks Corner Town Council for their impressive showing in the double-elimination touranment during council’s Tuesday, July 15 meeting.
The Minors All-Stars started the tournament off in blistering fashing with a 12-2 thumping over the Carolina League All-Stars.
In the second round the All-Stars rallied to pull out a dramatic come-from-behind win over Hanahan, catching life down 6-1 to come back and win 11-7.
Moncks Corner dropped a tough game against Summerville 5-2 in round three, but ralled to eliminate North Charleston 7-2 playing out of the losers’ bracket to force a rematch with Summerville for the championship.
In a game supsended 24 hours because of heavy rain, Moncks Corner fell behind early 2-0 before rallying to knot the score 2-2 in the fifth.
Summerville pulled ahead in the sixth with a run to go up 3-2. A last at-bat rally fell short as the All-Stars came up short to finish second in the tournament.
The Dixie Minor All-Stars received the Sportsmanship Award for the tournament as voted on by tournament officials.
“We were all very proud of how hard the boys practiced for the last month and how they never gave up in any game, no matter what happened,” said Coach David Clanton. “They certainly made Moncks Corner proud.”
