Moncks Corner Park and Recreation All-Star teams are proving again that the future of Berkeley Stags baseball and softball is in capable hands.
The eight-year-old Machine Pitch All-Stars were runners up in the District All-Star tournament July 7-12 at Hanahan.
Team members were honored before Moncks Corner Town Council during its Tuesday, July 15 meeting for their performance in the tournament.
According to coach James Bunch, the Moncks Corner Machine Pitch All Stars played an exceptional tournament, winning the first two games on Monday, July 7, and Tuesday, July 8, before suffering a tough loss on Thursday, July 10.
Rebounding from the loss, the All-Stars rallied to win an extra inning thriller on Friday, July 11.
“St. Paul’s pushed our team to the limit,” Bunch said. “The ‘Never Give Up’ attitude drove our team to score three runs in the top of the eighth.”
The Moncks Corner defense took over at this point to deny a St. Paul comeback rally to score in the bottom of the inning.
“These boys played their hearts out and left it all on the field,” Bunch said.
With the wins came a berth in the championship game on Saturday, July 12, which ended in a 14-11 loss for Moncks Corner.
The All-Stars hit a combined .506 for the tounament, a statistic Bunch said was oustanding.
“With only a week to prepare, they performed at a level which would make any coaching staff proud,” he said. “We definitely are proud of every one of our All Stars.”
Bunch thanked the parents, families and friends who came out to support the team:
“We had a great cheering section every night.”
Bunch also thanked the Moncks Corner Park and Recreation Dept for giving his team the opportunity to play in this tournament.
“It’s important for a team to know they have the backing of their local Park and Recreation Department,” he said. “And no other all-star team gets the level of support like we do in Moncks Corner.”
Team members are Dylan Kinney, Gavin Edens, Dillon Law, Jordan Glover, McCrae Driggers, Troy Reid, Jake Lloyd, Jacob Carswell, Reese Allen, Joey Shuler, Reed Driggers, Luke Adams.
Coaches are Scott Carswell, Chris Allen, James Bunch and Jermaine Glover.
