Hurricanes run rampant in SC

Itís Hurricane season in South Carolina.

The SC 16-Under Hurricanes have added yet another championship trophy to their case, winning the Hot Times Showcase Classic in Spartanburg July 10-12.

The 16-Under Hurricanes are comprised largely of Berkeley and Timberland softball players, plus other players from around the Lowcountry.

This showcase tournament attracted teams from Delaware to Indiana to showcase their talent for college coaches and recruiters.

After an elimination round, the top eight teams in the 17- team field battled it out for the title.

The Canes played 10 games over the three-day period, finishing with an 8-2 record to win the Hot Times Showcase Classic championship.

The top hitters in the tournament were Kendall Grubb hitting .480, Brooklyn Stone tallying a .407 clip, Class AAA All-State selection Blake Ponder hitting .393, Jessica Stanley followed at .385, and Haley Welch hit .333.

In the circle, Jessica Stanley finished 3-0 with a save, Brooklyn Stone followed with a 2-1 mark and Haley Welch was 2-2. The 16-Under SC Hurricanes are Brooklyn Stone, Haley Welch, Jessica Stanley, Victoria Singletary, Baily Crolley, Skylar Chambers, Alyssa Atienza, Caitlin Mills, Alex Cave, Kendall Grubb, Peggy Lou Rochay, and Blake Ponder.
