SC Xtreme fades in Spartanburg tournament

The temperatures might have been fit for a summer solstice, but the SC Xtreme bats went as cold as a February ice storm in the June 20-21 tournament in Spartanburg.

“Our pitching really did a great job this weekend,” said Coach Travis Hudson. “Liz, Shelly, and Ally ready did a great job. Our bats just went cold at real inopportune times.”

The Xtreme still posted some decent numbers offensively, according to Hudson, but could not connect with that key hit when the game was on the line.

Still, the first-year, 14-Under squad continues to improve.

“Our defense is getting stronger each time we play, but we’re still giving up too many unearned runs.”

The team hit a collective .444 for the tournament with five players posting averages over .400 for the tournament. Claire Gilmore, Ally Hardee, Sarah Barnhill and Haylee Wilkerson all hit over .400, and Brooklynn Stueness led the team with a .667 average, Hudson said. The group hit a collective .366.

The goal of the Xtreme organization is to help each athlete gain and improve their skills in playing competitive softball - learning values to help them grow as a person and as a teammate – and to gain the skills necessary to play softball at a college level.

“We have assembled talent from all over the surrounding Charleston counties,” Hudson said.

“The parents, coaches and players strive to commit themselves to good sportsmanship and a winning attitude on and off the field.

“We are a team that works hard and has fun together.”
