Berkeley County returns to the polls to choose between Davis, Peagler

  • Tuesday, June 24, 2014

Dan Brown/Independent Faye Stone of Wingate in the Carnes Crossroads community of Goose Creek, casts her vote in the Berkeley County runoff Tuesday at Stratford High School.

A light voting turnout has been reported at several precincts around Berkeley County Tuesday as the county’s top political office hangs in the balance.

Supervisor Dan Davis and challenger Bill Peagler are battling it out Tuesday for the county’s top elected seat, as Berkeley County voters return to the polls.

Polls will remain open today throughout the county from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The contest between Davis and Peagler has been the talk of Berkeley County politics for the past two weeks, and is the top race in today’s runoff. Davis defeated Peagler, the mayor of Moncks Corner, in total votes two weeks ago, and both men finished ahead of a third challenger, Jerry Beckley. Because Davis did not gain over 50 percent of the total votes, the runoff was triggered.

Any registered voter who did not take part in the Democratic primary election two weeks ago is eligible to vote in the runoff between the two Republicans.
