  • Tuesday, June 17, 2014

First Federal will be hosting a free shred day on June 21 at the SCBT branch at 317 North Highway 52 in Moncks Corner.

The community is welcome participate in this free event to shred unwanted documents to help protect against identify theft. The event hours are from 9 a.m. to noon.

“We encourage the public to stop by and take advantage of this opportunity,” said Vickie Walling, branch manager of the SCBT Moncks Corner. “Identity theft is a growing problem and events like this can help area residents protect themselves by shredding documents that they no longer need.”

Shredding documents is recommended to help consumers protect their personal information. Items such as old check statements, financial records, files containing personal information such as Social Security numbers or bank accounts, bills, credit card statements and other documents should be shredded on a regular basis to prevent identity crimes.

Medical/physicians statements, credit applications, insurance information and receipts can also be used for fraudulent purposes.

To assist as many people as possible, participants are encouraged to limit the items to be shredded to 100 lbs. per person or four standard sized boxes. Please avoid plastic or metal items as these cannot be processed.

For additional information, area residents are encouraged to contact the SCBT / First Federal customer care center at 843-529-5555 or stop by the nearest office.
