Dan Brown/Independent Moncks Corner Mayor Bill Peagler sits down for a chat at the Corner Cafe in May. Peagler will challenge incumbent Supervisor Dan Davis in a June 24 runoff.

Former Berkeley County supervisor candidate Jerry Beckley announced Wednesday he has endorsed Moncks Corner Mayor Bill Peagler in the runoff race against incumbent Supervisor Dan Davis.

The runoff election is June 24.

“Mr. Peagler aligns himself with the same leadership beliefs that I have,” Beckley said in the release. “He’s for smaller government, open transparency, conservative principals, and I believe he will work with the conservative members of council to move the county forward.”

In the release, Beckley said he wanted his supporters to vote for Peagler. Beckley finished third in the race for the party’s nomination June 10 with 16.28 percent of the vote, or 2,365 votes.

Davis earned nearly 700 votes more than Peagler with 6,437 votes. Peagler earned 5,722 votes. With no one earning more than 50 percent of the vote, the Republican primary resulted in a runoff, which is scheduled for June 24.
