St. Stephen shooting victim identified

The victim in a June 11 St. Stephen shooting has been identified.

According to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury, 41-year-old John David Morant of New York was pronounced dead at 12:01 p.m. June 11 after being transported from St. Stephen to Roper Berkeley ER in Moncks Corner with a gunshot wound.

An autopsy will be conducted June 12 and more information will be available later, Salisbury said.

The death is being investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner and the St. Stephen Police Department, assisted by Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dan Moon, the shooting took place early Wednesday afternoon.

According to a late BCSO report, police and deputies responded, just before 11 am, to a report of shots fired at 1020 Graham Street in St. Stephen. Upon arrival they found the victim who had been shot.
