Charleston Southern Bucs’ baseball coach Stuart Lake noticed improvement in the campers’ skill level during the first day of his annual Park and Recreation baseball camp.

“These kids are developing decent fundamental skills,” Lake said. “You can see the improvement in them from last year and the year before. They can catch the ball and throw the ball very well.”

A total of 23 ballplayers turned out for the weeklong skills and fundamentals baseball camp.

“The turnout was a little down,” said Park and Rec Director Ralph Jones. “But we were really pleased with the participation of those attending the camp. They received some very valuable one-on-one instruction.”

Lake ran the campers through hitting, fielding, catching and throwing drills, infieidl and outfield play, and base running trills over the four day camp.

“These baseball players displayed some outstanding fundamental skills. You can see they are taught well and taught early.”

Lake praised Park and Rec Athletic Director Matt Still, a former Buccanneer baseball player under Lake.

“You can tell where Matt’s had an influence on these young players,” he said. “The future of Berkeley Stags baseball is in very capable hands.”
