Shirley Faye (Hopkins) Archer of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 71.

She was the beloved wife of Reverend William E. (Bill) Archer of Moncks Corner, South Carolina for over 53 years.

Shirley was born in Abbeville, SC on August 3, 1942 and grew up in Moncks Corner. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert Colie and Mabel (Cann) Hopkins. She is also survived by a son, William A. Archer of St. Stephen, SC and a daughter, Michelle (Huger) McClellan of McClellanville, SC. Shirley also leaves behind her beloved granddaughters Jessica, Ashleigh, and Savannah McClellan, a treasured sister Gwen (Paul) Bartleson of Moncks Corner, SC and many nieces and nephews.

Throughout Bill and Shirley’s ministry she often served as WMU director and Sunday school teacher. She received numerous honors for her dedication and commitment to the music ministry, as she served as a pianist and organist for much of her life. She also taught high school business classes. One of her most cherished moments was when she received the “Greatest Grandmother of the Year” Award in 2008 by the state of South Carolina.

Burial was held May 15, 2014 at the McClellanville Baptist Church Cemetery on Society Road in McClellanville. A service celebrating Shirley’s life was held at Calvary Baptist Church in Moncks Corner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The Baptist Foundation of South Carolina, 190 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC, 29210 in memory of Shirley Archer for ministerial scholarships at Charleston Southern University.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers who helped Shirley during her time of need.

Justina A. Clark

Justina Arias Clark of Russellville died Thursday morning, May 8, 2014 at her residence. She was 76.

Surviving are her husband, Willard E. “Bill” Clark; a daughter, Sandra Aiken and her fiancé, Gilbert, of Russellville; a step daughter, Sharon C. Butler of Bonneau Beach; four step sons, Donald M. Clark and his wife, Elaine, of Dahlonega, GA, Gregg W. Clark and his wife, Katrina, of St. Stephen, Wayne Clark and his wife, Rita, of North Charleston, and Reid Clark of Moncks Corner; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth D. Ensor

Elizabeth Doss Ensor of Moncks Corner, a former dental assistant, died Sunday afternoon, May 11, 2014 at her residence. She was 87.

Surviving are her husband of 67 years, William S. “Bill” Ensor; a son, W. David Ensor and his wife, Peggy, of Moncks Corner; three grandchildren, W. David Ensor, Jr., and his wife, Abbie; W. Andrew “Drew” Ensor and his wife, Breck; and W. Duane Ensor and his wife, Emily; and a great-grandchild, Ava Drew Ensor.

Carl Thomas

Leonard Carl Thomas of Cordesville, a carpenter and heavy equipment operator for Jacobs Engineering Group, died Tuesday afternoon, May 6, 2014 at his residence. He was 61.

Surviving are his wife, Ena Ward Thomas; two daughters, Caitlin E. Thomas of Cordesville and Pauline W. Maxwell of Scotland; three sisters, Kathleen Hodge of Awendaw, Beatrice Still of Moncks Corner, and Thelma Mitchum of Macedonia; a brother, Kenny Thomas of Summerville; his good friend, Jody Riles; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
