For Sale by Town: House at 105 White St.

  • Saturday, May 3, 2014

Dan Brown/Independent The Town of Moncks Corner has purchased the property at 105 White Street with the intent to increase parking and green space. The house must be moved and is for sale.

The Town of Moncks Corner has a house it wants to give away.

All you have to do is figure out a way to move it.

The Town recently purchased the properties located at 105 White Street and the adjacent lot on the corner of White and Heatley Streets. The two-story house is located on this property, and the town, rather than have it torn down, wants to sell the house for nothing and have it moved.

While the house is in need of restoration and renovation, Public Services Director Butch Svagerko said the building is structurally sound.

“The floors are in decent shape and are the old style type of hardwood flooring and the structural integrity of the house is in decent shape.”

Svagerko said a number of World War II and Korean War era newspapers and magazines were still in remarkably good shape.

“The pages were yellowed but they were all dry, which should tell you the roof doesn’t leak,” he said.

The intent of the purchase is to increase the town’s green space while providing much needed parking for the downtown area. “With this in mind, the house will need to be removed,” Svagerko said. “The Town is currently listing the house for removal at no cost to any qualified party interested.”

Details for qualifications regarding this transaction will be listed on www.Govdeals.com starting May 5 for a six week period.
