There were superheroes everywhere at Jim Bradley Field for the 45th Annual Relay for Life Walk on Friday, April 25 and not all of them wore a mask and cape.
The heroes were those that have gone toe to toe with cancer and all were honored during the walk, both those who survived and the memory of those who passed on.
Moncks Corner Relay for Life consistently ranks as one of the top fundraisers in South Carolina, according to Relay for Life coordinator Georgie Ford.
“We may be smaller than other Relay for Life teams but we do things in a big way in Moncks Corner,” she said. “We consistently are in the top three in raising money every year.”
Last year more than 50 teams raised over $200,000 in the fight against cancer.
“Our goal in 2014 is to raise more than $215,000,” Ford said. “We won’t know our final totals for another week or so.”
This year, 28 participating teams, which include 142 participants, filled the football field at Gerald Moody Field.
On Saturday May 3, the Relay for Life celebration continues with the Lower Berkely Relay for Life Beauty Pageant at the Marguerite H. Brown Municipal Center on Highway 52 in Goose Creek.
