The future of Berkeley Stags wrestling continues to sparkle as another South Carolina Youth Wrestling Champion was recently crowned.

Jackson Proctor, 9, a student at Cane Bay Elementary, successfully defended his 2013 state wrestling championship by doing it again in the Age 10-and-Under 65-pound weight class.

Proctor, who dreams of wrestling for the Berkeley Stags in high school, went 3-0 for the tournament and finished 52-15 for the 2013-2014 season.

This stellar record included trips to the Dixie Nationals in Atlanta and the Wildwood National Duals in Wildwood, N.J.

The SCYWA state championship was Proctor’s second straight state title and for the season, of his 52 wins, 31 were by pin, five by technical falls and four by major decision. A major decision is any win by a greater-than 10-point margin of victory.

Proctor won his state championship by a 7-0 score and did not surrender a single point in the entire tournament.

Proctor said he enjoyed the one-on-one competition that is unique to wrestling.

“I really enjoy competing,” he said. “It’s just me and my opponent on the mat.”

The nine-year-old won his three matches by a combined score of 29-0.

He wrestles out of the Lowcountry Wrestling Academy in Summerville who won the state club championship for the third straight year.

LWA state champions in addition to Proctor include William Steinmeyer, Dominick Polesovsky, Tyler Nelson, Robert McLeod, Kalil Jenkins, Cole Messina, Joshua Maningding, Tyler Hunter, Matt Slayman, QuMari Jackson and Kemp Shider.
