It was a sluggish game.

Neither offense could muster much.

And the pitching, while erratic, held serve.

Berkeley’s Bryce Kunkle pitched through jams in the first and second innings, allowing just a single run in the first to shut down Colleton County 3-1 in the opening round of HIT at Jim Bradley Field on Monday, April 14.

Kunkle scattered five hits, all singles over six-and-two-thirds innings to get the win.

After giving up a single run in the top of the first while pitching out of a bases loaded jam, the Stags offense answered with a bases loaded jam and a two spot in the home half of the first on Kyle Garrick’s two-run single.

The two runs would be all Kunkle needed.

Berkeley added a third run in the fourth inning when Eric Orton walked and then scored on Zach Gonzales single.

Dillon Salisbury led the Stags with two hits and a run scored while Garrick, Gonzales and Josh Simmons each tallyng base hits.
