Unhappy with American Legion of SC
Since 1935 the American Legion has sponsored a program designed to instruct male high school students on the workings of the local, state and federal government.
This program is known as Boy’s State.
For approximately 30 years, American Legion Post 166 in Goose Creek has been an annual participant by sponsoring six to 13 young men from the area high schools.
This year the American Legion Department of South Carolina is denying Post 166 the privilege of participating in this most worthy of programs.
This despicable act is a result of Post 166 refusing to surrender to what it perceives to be the illegal financial demands of assessments and enhancements brought by the American Legion Department of South Carolina, and has resulted in the denial of local young men the opportunity to attend Boy’s State.
As a result of this the American Legion Department of South Carolina has disgraced the once proud name and reputation of the country’s largest veterans organization.
It is for this reason that I must apologize to the staff and students of Goose Creek High School, Stratford High School, Hanahan High School and Northwood Christian Academy for their being denied this opportunity.
I further feel it is ironic that an organization that exists to promote true Americanism is being tarnished by its own leadership.
