A fist fight on Pinewood Drive in Moncks Corner resulted in a lockdown at Berkeley High School around 11:15 a.m. on Friday, April 11.

According to Moncks Corner Police Dept. Captain Mark Murray, the call originally came in as a shooting, which resulted in the precautionary lockdown.

“We always err on the side of caution, absolutely,” Murray said. “While the incident was initially reported as a shooting, we put the school on lockdown in the event the suspect did have a weapon and headed in the direction of the school.”

Murray added that the situation has been contained and the suspect taken into custody.

“It was actually a fist fight and assualt and the suspect was quickly taken into custody,” Murray said.

The lockdown interrupted the Berkeley County Special Olympics competition at Bonner Stadium behind the school when the lockdown was announced. Students remained on lockdown until around 12:30 p.m.

This was the second such incident in Moncks Corner in as many days. On Thursday, April 10, there was a shooting reported to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office on Kitfield Road just outside of Moncks Corner where one individual was wounded, according to reports.
