The Williamsburg County Public School Foundation conducted its Third Annual Hall of Fame Induction Scholarship Gala, in the Kingstree Senior High School Gymnasium in Kingstree on March 28.
There were some important individuals I did not have an opportunity to acknowledge appropriately.
I extend special gratitude to my sister, Jessica J. Hawkins, not only for her presence that evening, but for her continuous and consistent support of her sister, through all things. Additionally, my dear cousin and adopted brother, Commander Samuel Middleton, his wife Ruth, daughter Tiffani, and Sister Henrietta Lambright; my husband Jerome, and children Chanda Kelly and Jemoreí McDowell, and their children, Joletta, Leah, Laci and Lyla.
I also thank my brother Joe, his wife Deloris, and their children, Trena (Ricky), Marva (Ty) and Joey. Iím extremely grateful to my church family, Day Dawn Baptist Church, for its support, and all members that were able to attend. Also, thanks to other Berkeley County supporters, such as Louis Mayrant and LaShanda Reid (Iím certain there were others I did not see, but were in attendance).
Iím blessed to be a part of two counties that have supported the efforts of an administration, dedicated to serving children in a positive and effective manner.
My Williamsburg County family also came out in grand style to say to everyone that their childrenís future is important to them.
I thank the Williamsburg Public School Foundation Board, and its communications staff, Ms. Jaicelyn Spann, for the outstanding work accomplished in putting an unforgettable evening event together, and Mr. Kenneth Sales for the one of a kind PowerPoint presentation. And I thank again, Mrs. Shirley Wiggins (most beautiful dťcor); Mr. Douglas Foxworth; Ms. Elaine Culick; Mr. Mack Burgess; Mr. Boykin Parson, Director of Facilities and Procurement, and his staff, for getting everything in place; Mrs. Nicole Giles and her staff for a menu well prepared and executed; Mrs. Hattie Pendergrass, for her technical support; the students of WCSD for their service; the Phenomenal Claflin University Choir, and Director Dr. Isaiah McGee, for unforgettable performances.
We thank all program participants, and especially our inspirations speaker, the Rev. David Ruth, Pastor, Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, Kingstree.
We thank the Williamsburg County Board of Trustees for its support, along with other elected and appointed county officials; community businesses, residents, fraternities and sororities, along with other county organizations, individuals, and support agencies. I must also thank those district and school administrators that came through for our children. A listing of all contributors was published and included in the programís booklet for all to view.
I would also like to congratulate again, the 2014 honorees and inductees: Dr. Samuel Davis; Coach John McKissick; Mr. Edwin Pasley (posthumously); Dr. Veronica Scott-Fulton and U. S. Marshall Kelvin Washington. There were so many persons to be acknowledged, Iím hopeful, through this medium, Iíve been able to touch a few more. And last but not least, we extend special appreciation to the hosts of the evening, Mr. Gregory and Mrs. Ann McGill.
