Lexi Samples sent a message to the rest of Region 8AAA.
With a perfect 4-for-4 night, including a triple and two runs scored, Samples put her stamp on the first half of the Region 8AAA schedule: The region crown still belongs to Berkeley.
The Lady Stags routed Hilton Head 10-0 on Thursday, April 3 and have outscored their opponents 67-2 since a March 21 shutout at the hands of Stratford.
Currently the Lady Stags’ mound staff has pitched three consecutive shutouts holding a lopsided 38-0 offensive advantage.
So far, the Berkeley Lady Stags have made a joke of the Region 8AAA race.
Blake Ponder continued her torrid hitting pace going 3-4 with a double and triple, and four RBIs to help lead the offense.
Pitcher Brooklyn Stone, who twirled a two-hit shutout, helped her own cause with a pair of hits, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Berkeley stands atop the Region 8AAA heap with a perfect 5-0 region record and 12-1 overall.
Coach Boogie Grooms said the Hilton Head game was important.
“If we could come in here and beat Hilton Head at their place, that puts us in excellent shape with most of the second half of the region schedule being played at home.”
The Lady Stags play James Island and Hanahan at home on Monday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 9.
