  • Wednesday, March 26, 2014

Matt Smoak has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Berkeley County Sheriff.

A Smoak campaign release cited his experience in public safety. “The time has come for the residents and visitors of Berkeley County to feel safe and secure in their homes, schools and businesses,” Smoak said in the release. “The time has also come to have a county that will provide the services that so many of us are wanting in our areas.

“I have seven years of law enforcement experience from the City of Charleston and I have approximately 17 years of experience within public safety, ranging from volunteer rescue, paramedic and law enforcement. I have worked in all the counties as an EMT. I am a resident of this growing county, Berkeley.”

The primary is June 10.
