The Berkeley Stags have had their sights set on May since last year and if the first two games of the 2014 season are any indication, the rest of the baseball field better watch out.
Jeffrey Stone fired a three-hit shut out over six innings and Dillon Salisbury drove in two runs on three hits as the Stags downed Timberland 3-0 in the American Legion Post 166 Pre-Season Tournament last week.
The defending Region 8AAA champions made it a perfect sweep riding a four-run second to cruise to a 7-1 win over Airport in the final game of opening weekend.
Stone shut down the Wolves offense on just three hits and struck out nine over six innings of work to pick up the win.
Zach Gonzales had a pair of hits including a double.
Josh Winningham led Timberland with two hits.
Against Airport, Joe Glauser scattered three hits over five-and-a-third innings and Dylan Baker’s two-run homer led the Stags’ eight-hit attack.
Pre-season tournament play continues this week.
