A decision on school closings for Thursday will be made Wednesday.
• A forecast calling for freezing rain has Berkeley County braced for its second round of winter weather in three weeks.
The National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning that was set to begin Tuesday night, and remain in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday.
The warning’s scope has expanded since it was first issued Monday, as all of Berkeley County is now at risk, especially the northern part of the county.
Berkeley County School District will issue a statement at 2 p.m. Tuesday regarding afterschool activities and Wednesday’s schedule.
According to the NWS, ice accumulations of up to one-half inch are possible, as temperatures are expected to dip just below freezing on both Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Rain is expected to change to freezing rain late Tuesday.
The National Weather Service warned of the dangers: “Significant ice accumulations could create dangerous or impossible driving conditions, especially on bridges, overpasses and untreated roads,” its website reminded residents. “Damage to trees and power lines are likely as well as power outages throughout the area.”
Officials encouraged residents to avoid traveling if at all possible.
Much like two weeks ago, the storm is not expected to last more than two days: the forecast for Friday is sunny skies and temperatures nearing 60 degrees.
