Employees from Nucor Steel Berkeley delivered 60 new computers to Cainhoy Elementary and Middle School in Berkeley County last week. The donation, done in partnership with the Daniel Island Community Fund, is part of Nucor’s support of education programs.

“We are very excited to support education in this way … at Nucor Steel Berkeley we are world class in the technology we utilize and so it is important for our community to have a strong education system to prepare our future workforce,” said Giff Daughtridge, Vice President and General Manager of Nucor Steel Berkeley. “That is why our company has been a strong supporter of local education, particularly programs focused on science, math and technology (STEM).

“This is especially rewarding because of the high regard the Nucor team has for the Cainhoy Elementary Middle School administration and teachers.”

Nucor worked with the Daniel Island Community Fund and Cainhoy Elementary Middle School on the computer donation. The 60 new Dell Computers allow Cainhoy Elementary and Middle School to update their computer lab.

“Education is of vital importance to the lifelong learning abilities of our students. Our Cainhoy students, faculty and staff would like to thank Nucor and the Daniel Island Community Fund for their generous donation to our school,” said John Spagnolia, Principal of Cainhoy Elementary and Middle School. “The new computers will greatly enhance our students’ ability to think beyond the classroom and to help them prepare for the future.”

Nucor Steel Berkeley is part of Nucor Corporation, the largest steel producer in the United States, with a production capacity of 27 million tons per year.
