Noah Kelly, Isabel Phillips, and Nathan Glyder as Cosmo Brown, Kathy Selden, and Don Lockwood are thinking hard about the upcoming production of Singin’ In The Rain. Performances are February 13-15 at 7pm and February 16th at 5pm at the Wando Theatre Performing Arts Center.

Students from Wando High School Theatre are taking the classic musical Singin’ in the Rain to the Wando stage Feb.y 13-16 at the Wando Performing Arts Center.

The musical follows silent movie actors Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont on their journey into talking pictures. Don and his love interest, Kathy Selden, try to overcome Lina’s unfortunate vocals with the help of Don’s right hand man, Cosmo Brown.

The musical is based on the classic Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film, with a screenplay by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, songs by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed, and starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, and Debbie Reynolds.

Well-known songs include “Good Morning,” “Make ‘em Laugh,” and the irresistible title song.

In order to bring the iconic “rain” scene to the stage, Wando’s technical director Joshua Hasty has designed a rain system that allows senior Nathan Glyder, as Don, to re-create the classic dance from the movie.

Choreographer Kim Chesley-Breland has created eye-popping tap dance numbers for the cast of 41, including seniors Noah Kelly as Cosmo and Isabel Phillips as Kathy.

Colleen Kinslow brings the laughs as vocally-challenged Lina, and seniors Javaron Conyers and Sean Barnett round out the lead roles as studio head R.F. Simpson and director Roscoe Dexter.

Managing the technical aspects of the show are student stage managers Kristen Popovich, Emily Ricker, and Elena Vories.

The beautiful 1920’s style apparel has been assembled by costume designers Kathy Kinslow and Catherine Lawson.

The live orchestra, showcasing members of the acclaimed Wando band and orchestra, is under the direction of Mary Elizabeth Goodson and Ryan Silvestri.

Singin’ in the Rain is directed by Lori Carroll.

This show is made possible through the contributions of sponsors, including Beachside Real Estate, 84 Lumber, Island Realty, Sonic Drive-in, Landing Financial Group, and Coastal Carolina Research Center.

Wando’s production of Singin’ in the Rain will run Feb. 13 - 15 at 7 p.m. with a matinee on February 16th at 5 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students.
