Tech offers constable training courses

Trident Technical College’s Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development is offering two constable training courses on the Main Campus in North Charleston.

The first course begins Feb. 15. Individuals interested in registering should call (843) 574-6152, visit www.tridenttech.edu/ce.htm or email ce.reg@tridenttech.edu.

The S.C. Constable Training Program is a 92-hour course covering policies and procedures, constitutional law, law of arrest, search and seizure, crisis intervention, evidence, handling of prisoners, office survival, police communications, ethics, juvenile procedures/child abuse, police/community relations, civil liability and firearms.

Participants must be pre-approved by SLED and must bring their letter to the first day of class.

Class is scheduled 5-9 p.m. on Fridays, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 1-5 p.m. on Sundays from Feb. 15 through March 22. The cost for this course is $625.

Constable In-Service Training: Constables must take this course each year to renew their constable commission. It consists of three hours of legal update, two hours of civil liability, and four hours of firearms training and qualifications. Constables must score 75 percent or above on the written examination and qualify with their choice of weapons.

Class is scheduled 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from April 22-26. Cost for this course is $99.
